Rooted in Faith, Growing in Community
First Christian Church of Medford began with a simple gathering of believers and a desire to follow the Lord.
In November of 1893, a few Christians met in the lobby of the Commercial Hotel, where Bank 7 stands today, and organized the First Christian Church of Medford. Joshua 24:15 became their foundational verse: “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
By the spring of 1894, a small schoolhouse had been built, and the church began meeting there, starting a legacy of worship, Scripture, fellowship, and service that continues in Medford today.
Community
In small-town America, community is woven closely together. Life is side by side, where neighbors know one another by name, notice when someone is missing, gather around families in hard seasons, and celebrate together when joy comes. In a place like this, the well-being of one household is connected to the well-being of the whole town, and the church has a beautiful opportunity to love, serve, pray, and seek the good of the community where God has placed us.
Seek the prosperity of the city to which I have sent you as exiles, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for if it prospers, you too will prosper.
We Believe
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, through whom all things were made. He is the eternal Word who became flesh, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who spoke through the prophets, and we believe in one holy, universal, apostolic church, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we exist. And there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we exist.
The Word of God
We believe the Bible is the inspired, unerring Word of God, breathed out by God through human authors by the work of the Holy Spirit. Because Scripture comes from the God who cannot lie, it is true in all that it teaches, trustworthy in all that it reveals, and authoritative over all matters of faith, doctrine, worship, and obedience. The Scriptures reveal Christ, make us wise for salvation, equip the people of God for every good work, and stand forever as the living and abiding Word of the Lord.
All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
